Owned by one of Japan’s largest automotive brands, INFINITI entered the American market in the late 1980s. Also owned by a major Japanese auto company, Acura has been on the American marketplace since the middle of the 1980s. Throughout the generations, both firms have launched a handful of luxury vehicles for consumers with generous budgets. In recent years, these auto brands have primarily focused on the crossover SUV and sedan segments. Most of the INFINITI models typically adopt the mechanical platforms of Nissan models. Likewise, most Acura vehicles employ the same architecture as Honda cars. Whether you’re looking for an executive-style sports sedan or premium crossover SUV, you will find solid options from INFINITI and Acura. However, INFINITI currently has the edge over its rival in the SUV and coupe niches. Let’s compare the latest lineups of both luxury brands that come from Japan.

INFINITI vs. Acura: Lineup Comparison

Having the lowest price tag on the INFINITI lineup, the Q50 sports sedan offers great value in performance, comfort, and digital technology. Available with an all-wheel drive, this compact model competes against the Acura ILX, which rolls on a standard front-wheel drive. If you’re interested in driving a sporty coupe from INFINITI, get behind the wheel of the cool Q60. Offering a twin-turbo engine, the Dynamic Digital Suspension and other high-performance hardware, this two-door model is ready for the track. Unfortunately, Acura doesn’t currently produce any coupes for the American marketplace. Having a steep price tag with six figures, the racing-style NSX supercar shouldn’t be compared with the INFINITI Q60. Families looking for a premium crossover SUV may choose the INFINITI QX50, QX55, and QX60. By contrast, Acura’s crossover SUV roster only consists of the MDX and RDX. This auto brand doesn’t offer any model that matches the INFINITI QX80, which is a luxury SUV with three rows of seating. Climate-controlled seats with real leather trimming are available for this high-end family vehicle. Under the hood, the QX80 has a V-8 engine block with fuel-saving technologies. Traditionally, Acura hasn’t embraced eight-cylinder engines for any of its models, especially crossover SUVs. Designed for families that enjoy outdoor activities, the QX80 has the highest towing capacity on the entire INFINITI lineup. None of the Acura crossover SUVs can match the trailering and hauling capabilities of this full-size INFINITI SUV.
