Why Is My Car Not Starting?

We often take our automobile for granted when it starts easily for us each day. However, there are things that can prevent our vehicle from starting on the first try. Routine maintenance, service, and inspections can often prevent these problems, but the following issues could still cause a problem with the ignition.

Start Engine Button

Your Battery Is Dead Or Malfunctioning

Your battery is a necessary part of the startup process of your engine. Your battery must be charged, it must be holding a charge, and it must be able to recharge on its own. If there are any issues with these necessities, you may have trouble with your startup process. We can test your battery to see what kind of condition it's in, and we can help you pick out a new battery if need be.

Faulty Ignition

Your car might not be starting because of a faulty ignition. The battery should be working fine in this instance, but the ignition switch isn't allowing anything to engage. Check to see if your headlights are working. If they are, the battery isn't the problem.

Broken Starter

Inside of your engine attached to your battery is a small electric motor that helps start your vehicle. If you notice that there are clicking sounds happening when you press the ignition switch, but the engine isn't making any noise at all, the starter may be to blame.

Fuel Filter Clog

The purpose of the fuel in your tank is to power the engine. There is a fuel filter that is in the midst of this process, and this filter can become clogged. This would prevent the proper flow of fuel to your engine. We usually replace this filter at the 20,000 to 30,000-mile point. The frequency might be a little longer, depending on your vehicle's technology.

Lack of Gas

Your gas tank might be empty without you even knowing. Your vehicle should alert you of this issue, but you may have missed it. You're not going to get far without fuel, so you can use roadside assistance to get some fuel in your tank for a startup.
