There a few warning signs that all drivers should be aware of when it comes to their car’s battery. From your check engine light coming on to low fluid levels, your battery could have major issues that could cause it to quite, usually at very inconvenient times. Below, we’ve listed out some common signs that you might need a new battery.

1) Your battery is leaking. It’s a good idea to pop your car’s hood every once and a while to check out the status of your battery. If you see a lot of fluid and gunk build-up on the battery, its best to bring it in to your local service center to get the battery cleaned or replaced, as a leaky battery can cause it to give out prematurely.

2) You see some swelling or bloating. It’s also good to check for any swelling in the battery case, which can indicate a serious problem like excess heat, which could decrease your battery’s life significantly.

3) Your engine is cranking slowly. If it takes two or three tries to get your engine to crank, then your battery might be to blame.

4) Your battery is old. If you haven’t changed out your battery in over four years, your car is probably running on decreased power. Most experts recommend replacing your battery every 3 years to ensure optimal performance.
