There are several INFINITI models that offer a manual shift mode with their automatic transmission. The manual shift mode is designed to give the driver a more engaging road experience. Below, we will show you how to operate the manual shift mode.

In order to activate the INFINITI manual drive feature, place the Drive Sport position, move the selector into the shift gate position. The shift gate position is located at the bottom left of the shifter. You can then operate manual mode in one of two ways. The first way to operate manual shift mode is by moving the shift gate up and down. The second way to operate manual shift mode is by using the paddle shifters.

To operate manual mode with the shift gate, move the shifter up when shifting to a higher gear. When shifting to a lower gear, move the shifter into the down position. For the paddle shifter mode, click the right paddle shifter to move the vehicle up in gear. To move the vehicle into a lower gear, click the left paddle shifter.

For both driving modes, use the seventh gear for all highway driving. Use fifth and sixth gear when driving up hills or inclines or braking when you are driving down long declining road or hill. Fourth, third and second gear can be used for climbing a steeper elevation or driving on downhill grades. First gear can be used for climbing steep hills, driving slowly or for braking when going down steep downhill grades. It is recommended that you do not drive at lower than seventh gear, at highway speeds, in order to prevent a reduction in fuel economy.
