Monsoon season is rapidly coming up for the Phoenix area, ensuring buckets of heavy rain and dust are dumped on the Valley. For this reason, Infiniti of Peoria put together a few wet weather driving tips, just in case you get caught out in one of these major storms.

  1. If there’s a flash flood warning, don’t drive. Unless it’s an actual emergency, and even then its best to call 911, you should not get out on the road if you see there is a flash flood warning. These are real and very dangerous events, which can sweep a car away in seconds, endangering both you and the emergency crews that will have to come rescue you.
  2. Slow down. This is super obvious, but for most Phoenicians, who aren’t used to driving in wet weather, slowing down doesn’t seem high on their priority list. Keeping a safe speed though is crucial in staying safe on wet roads, as rain causes your tires to have less grip, meaning that you’re more likely to lose control of your car when speeding.
  3. Don’t take corners too fast. Again, this has to do with the loss of tire grip on a wet road, as jerking your steering wheel too hard can cause a car to go out of control.
  4. Keep a safe driving distance. Tailgating someone is always a bad, and obnoxious, move, but it’s downright dangerous in wet weather. As such, it’s paramount to keep a safe distance between the cars in front you, just in case you need to suddenly brake.
