INFINITI’S QX50 CONCEPT HINTS AT TECHNOLOGY TO COME

There were plenty of concept vehicles in attendance at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, but arguably none as compelling as the INFINITI QX50. The automaker’s latest crossover concept represents the next step in the brand’s evolution, previewing both new design themes and innovative technologies that will shape the future of INFINITI automobiles, particularly the forthcoming redesigned QX50.

The Inspiration Behind the Concept

The QX50 concept is a progression of the QX Sport Inspiration concept, which stunned INFINITI fans and critics alike when it was revealed in Beijing last year. The QX50 concept shares the same striking “Powerful Elegance” design language, however, it incorporates much more beneath the exterior. The concept also illuminates how the automaker’s latest powertrain and autonomous driver-assist technologies can be implemented in future models. In fact, everything seen in this concept is considered production-ready.

Luxurious Modern Cabin with ProPilot Integration

The QX50 concept’s cabin is beaming with refinement, featuring a three-tone cabin scheme with soft-touch plastics, real wood trim, genuine and synthetic leathers, and dolt quilted upholstery. The layout combines driver-centricity with passenger-oriented elements that makes traveling a treat for everyone aboard. According to INFINITI, “the dashboard is focused on the driver, using its form and appearance to engender a true sense of confidence at the wheel.”

The center stack houses the Graphic User Interface, which provides the driver with the navigation and infotainment features. Additionally, it houses the ProPilot driver assist feature, INFINITI’s new self-driving technology. In future usage, the ProPilot feature will be able to cruise on the highway and worm through stop-and-go traffic while monitoring surrounding vehicles through a network of radar, cameras and laser scanners.

Showcasing the 2.0-Liter VC-Turbo Engine

The INFINITI QX50 also features the brand-new, production-ready 2.0-liter VC-Turbo engine, showing how this ultra-efficient powerplant will fit, and perform, inside a vehicle. Targeted towards mid-sized crossover applications, the VC-Turbo targets improved fuel efficiency and performance with a 27 percent improvement over V6 counterparts.

While we are still waiting for INFINITI to release information on the QX50 redesign, there is speculation that it will bear close resemblance to this concept. Be sure to check back to our INFINITI blog for the latest updates!
